Knowledge management given August 21, by Eng. Yader Rostran, Member of the team of electronic security on motion detectors, how they work and which one to choose?

There are basically three types of detectors according to their performance. But there are also different models for every need, whether alarm systems, systems of surveillance, or for the automatic ignition of lamps.

The motion sensor is an electronic device that acts when it detects motion in the area under surveillance. Their utilities are diverse, sometimes used for security and others as automation.

Types of motion detectors

There are basically three types different according to your way of working:

Infrared motion sensors: they are the most widely used are those who produce less failures, detect change in an environment that is monitored through the bodies temperature.

Ultrasonic motion sensor: are you capable of capturing variations in space through an ultrasonic wave that goes through the atmosphere and back to the detector bouncing in every object that is located in the environment, if the device detects a new object will activate it.

Dual technology motion sensor: This type of motion sensors used two different detection technologies, so that it will only give alarm condition if both technologies simultaneously.

Generally, these two technologies are: passive infrared and microwave. Microwave sensors have an antenna that transmits to the environment radiation of waves, a frequency within the microwave spectrum.

On August 15, knowledge management on Biometric Attendance and Access Control: benefits for security was carried out, taught by Eng. José Balladares, member of the electronic security team.

What is attendance and access control?

Biometric attendance and access control is an identification system based on the physiological qualities of the user, but it can also be based on the behavior of the user. It is a personal and non-transferable system. Within biometrics as an access system, we can differentiate several types of recognition: fingerprint, facial, ocular or vascular identification, among others.

The main advantages of a fingerprint reader are:

  • It offers a higher level of security to the facilities. Biometric access control is considered the most secure system, as it is based on unique qualities of the user. The fingerprint is a non-transferable and unrepeatable feature in each person.
  • Reduces maintenance costs. Biometric fingerprint access control has lower maintenance costs compared to other identification systems.
  • The fingerprint reader does not require additional devices to open the door. The user does not need to use traditional keys, cards, switches or switches. Being based on the recognition of the unique characteristic of the person, it dispenses with physical identification elements, so there is no risk of misplaced keys.
